FULL-RANGE DRIVERS

Full-range driver technology has been perfected and now delivers an incredible frequency response from the lowest bass to the highest highs.

A loudspeaker enclosure with a high quality single full-range driver is considered by audiophiles to be the pinnacle of hifi listening. It is pure, precise, unfiltered and all details from the master recording are presented as intended.

SOLID WOOD ENCLOSURES

Mathiesen Audio speaker enclosures begin with hand-selecting only the highest quality hardwood. It is then resting and acclimatising in our workshop until it is ready to be machined and assembled.

All speaker enclosures are dovetail jointed, which is the strongest timber joint there is. These speakers will never come apart.

Only the highest quality components are used; from speaker binding posts, to internal wiring and finally, the amazing Mark Audio full-range drivers.

All Mathiesen Audio speakers are precisely calculated, tested, measured and trialled. After years of testing and manufacturing, our line of speakers has been perfected.

SPEAKER STANDS

The aluminium stands and plinths are substantial to ensure the speakers are super stable and eliminate any acoustic energy going into the speakers.

The stainless steel adjustable spikes are solid and come with a strong M8 thread. The spikes are supplied with 4 stainless steel floor plates for use on wooden or concrete floors. For use on carpet, we recommend that you let the spikes penetrate into the carpet for stability.

M1.2 floor stander comes with plinths. The stands for M2.1 and M3.1 are an optional extra.

SPEAKER PLACEMENT

All speakers are rear-ported, which means they must not be placed on a bookshelf or hard up against a wall. Ideally, place the speakers at least 40cm away from the nearest wall to produce the best bass response.

Stand mount speakers should be roughly at a height where the driver is at the same level as your ears from your favourite listening position.

As all rooms are different, we encourage you to play around with speaker placement and speaker angle. Try moving them around while listening to the same track to hear the difference. Speaker position makes a huge difference and is the favorite subject to discuss amongst audiophiles and acoustic engineers.

If you are specifically after a bookshelf speaker, please contact us and we can make a front ported speaker to service your needs.

NZ NATIVE RIVERWOOD

Our relationship with NZ Native Riverwood started years ago when we approached Glenn and his team. We had been involved in a building project using their product and we had never seen timber this beautiful before.
Some of the timber species from Riverwood were too soft for our speaker enclosures, but Glenn then showed us a few Matai logs they had recently retrieved. Matai's density is very similar to oak and the weight is pretty much identical too.
Years of testing and listening between the Oak and the Matai Riverwood has proved to be 100% identical. This was obviously a must for us and it is an honor to be a part of New Zealand's logging history and being able to supply our customers with the most stunning speakers we have ever produced.

A part of NZ native Riverwood's profit goes directly back into replanting river banks with native trees, so by purchasing a pair of Mathiesen Audio speakers our customers are directly a part of the journey to restoring our Northland rivers.

The company "New Zealand Native Riverwood" reclaims logs felled more than 100 years ago from Northland rivers. The natural process of soaking in the mineral rich waters is reflected in each log’s unique pattern, grain and coloration. No Riverwood speakers will therefore look alike and you will own a unique set.

OAK

Oak is in many ways the perfect choice for speaker enclosures. It is dense and durable and with an incredible stable grain structure and a contemporary look that never goes out of fashion. The oak we use is all plantation grown certified timber with only a few knots and imperfections. A big part of our speaker manufacturing process is to match up the timber, and all the oak we use gets pre-machined before resting and then matched up according to colour variations and grain structure. Oak is heavy, hardwearing, stable and stunning.

CARE & HANDLING

Mathiesen Audio solid wood speaker enclosures will appreciate being handled with care like all fine wooden furniture. Keep them out of direct sunlight and avoid high humidity. With very little care they will last for generations.

Unlike painted MDF or particleboard speaker enclosures, solid wood can be repaired, sanded and re-oiled should an accident happen. Please get in contact with us if you accidentally damage your speaker enclosures.

If you happen to damage the full range drivers, do not attempt to remove these yourself. Contact us for reinstalling a new pair of matching drivers.
